A Japanese form of poetry;

consisting of 5 lines;

with the 1st 3rd line having 5 syllables, while the 2nd , 4th and 5th line contain 7 syllables:

Zen Buddhists began using Haiku in the 17th century after adapting it from a popular form of poetry known as Renga. Haiku is a Japanese verse form consisiting of 3 unrhymed lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables. Some of the most famous Haiku writer’sinclude: Masuoka Shiki, Basho, & Yosa Buson. My newest feature here is Tanka poetry. Tanka is another form of Japanese poetry in 5 lines, the 1st & 3rd composed of 5 syllables & the 2nd & 4th & 5th line having 7 syllables. Tanka 1:

Asleep I am now,

I can dream of many things.

On my mind even

Asleep is you, and me for

All of eternity, beau.

Tanka 2:

Sky, clouds of blue, sun,

Air is crisp, snow still lies here,

End winter, start spring.

Please I am so cold and ready

For birds, and flowers, and warmth!

Tanka 3:

Frame, picture, glass, wall,

Hung so proudly, stare I do.

Wood, sun, rock, tiger,

Reminders of you, me, us.

Passage thru time of passion !

Hold me close my love

For I am weary today

You I can depend

To lift my dwindled spirits

For this I am grateful
